Gray Scores 37, Santa Ana Beats Pasadena in Double OT

Santa Ana went two overtimes to beat Pasadena, 98-90, in a semifinal game at the Pasadena men’s basketball tournament Friday.

Sophomore forward Greg Gray hit a three-pointer with about 20 seconds left in regulation to tie it, 75-75, for Santa Ana.

The teams were tied, 86-86, after the first overtime.

Santa Ana (11-1) advanced to meet Santa Monica at 6 tonight in the title game. The Dons played without starting sophomore guard Mark Wulfemeyer, who has the flu.

Gray made 11 of 19 shots from the field, including five of seven three-point attempts, to finish with a game-high 36 points. He also had seven rebounds.

Freshman forward Zac Fray added 27 and a team-high 14 rebounds and sophomore guard Brian Chambers added 15 for Santa Ana. Chambers was five of 12 on three-pointers.

Damir Latovic and Duquan Everett had 22 points each for Pasadena (9-5), which meets Chaffey in the third-place game at 2 p.m.

In another tournament game:

Fullerton 93, Golden West 55--Todd Jones, playing against his former team, scored 26 for Fullerton, which plays Santa Barbara at noon today in the consolation final.

Jones, who played at Golden West in 1997-98, made 11 of 15 from the field and had a team-high eight rebounds. Levar Grace added 19 points for Fullerton (8-7).

Rodney Clarke had 12 points for Golden West (4-8).

In a nonconference game:

Irvine Valley 86, Grossmont 77--Irvine Valley scored 53 second-half points to beat visiting Grossmont.

The Lazers (8-4) had to overcome a horrible start in which they fell behind, 16-2. But Irvine Valley rallied to lead at the half, 33-31.

Irvine Valley got solid play from guards Craig Rice (18 points) and Earl Sanchez (16).

In the Orange Coast women’s tournament:

Orange Coast 74, El Camino 37--Orange Coast opened the second half with a 14-2 run on its way to the easy victory.

Karyn Fierst led the Pirates (12-1) with 14 points and Erin Tomlinson chipped in with 14 rebounds.

Shauna Stewart added 12 points and Sarah Middlebrooke had 10 rebounds for Orange Coast, which plays Southwestern at 7:30 tonight in one semifinal.

San Diego Mesa meets Cerritos at 5:30 in the other semifinal.

The title game is at 4 p.m. Sunday.

San Diego Mesa 77, Fullerton 73--Andria Booker scored 25 points and pulled down 16 rebounds for San Diego Mesa in the victory. Missy Bynon scored 18 points for Fullerton.

Cuesta will face Fullerton today at 1:30 in a consolation-round game.
