Forward Conlon Is Signed to Take Skinner’s Roster Spot

Veteran free-agent forward Marty Conlon was at home in Boston getting ready for Christmas when his agent called and told him the Clippers wanted to sign him. He didn’t need long to decide.

“I needed a job and here I am,” said Conlon, who signed with the Clippers before Friday night’s game against the Golden State Warriors at Staples Center.

To make room for Conlon, the Clippers put second-year big man Brian Skinner on the injured list because of a severe left ankle sprain.

Skinner, who suffered the injury against the Lakers on Tuesday, and shooting guard Derek Anderson are expected to be sidelined at least two weeks because of ankle injuries.

Conlon, a nine-year NBA veteran, began the season with Boston but was put on the injured list because of a sprained toe on his right foot on Nov. 1. Conlon didn’t play in a game with the Celtics before being waived on Monday. He’s happy to get a chance with the Clippers.

“The situation here with all the injuries and all the young players, it should be exciting,” said Conlon, who has averaged 6.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 16.8 minutes over his career.

“I haven’t played in the West Coast in a long time. I’m curious to see the style, how the game’s played.”

The Clippers promoted Rob Raichlen to director of communications after serving the last three seasons as an assistant to Jill Wiggins, who left last month to work with the WNBA’s expansion team in Portland.
