Master’s Extends Winning Streak With Group Effort

Every starter and one reserve scored in double figures and The Master’s defeated Indiana Wesleyan, 84-61, in a men’s basketball nonconference game Friday night at Master’s.

It was Master’s ninth consecutive victory. Indiana Wesleyan is 10-2.

Reggie McFerren made five of 11 shots and three of five free throws, finishing with 14 points for the Mustangs (12-2), ranked No. 15 in the NAIA.

Joclin Julmist had 13 points, 14 rebounds and five assists for Master’s, and reserve guard Kenny Jackson had 13 points and nine steals.

Dominic Avila scored 11 points, and Jacy Arbruster and Joey Penberthy each scored 10 points for the Mustangs, who forced 26 turnovers. Arbruster blocked three shots and Penberthy had five assists.

Modesto 88, Antelope Valley 81--The Pirates (10-2) made their first seven shots, opened up a 23-point halftime advantage and staved off a second-half charge by Antelope Valley in a first-round game of the College of the Sequoias tournament.

Nick O’Neill rallied Antelope Valley (6-7), making seven of his season-high eight three-point baskets in the second half to finish with 27 points. He scored 24 points in the second half.

Jimmy White had 26 points and six rebounds for the Marauders.

Moorpark 77, Glendale 72--Brian Smith had 19 points and a team-high 11 rebounds for Moorpark in the semifinals of the Glendale tournament.

Kenny Plummer had 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Raiders (11-3), who have won seven in a row. Moorpark meets Bakersfield in the championship game tonight.

O.J. Thomas had 12 assists for Moorpark, and Dan Galvanoni had 14 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Cal Lutheran 59, UC Santa Cruz 39--The Regals went on a 12-4 run to open the second half and turn a close nonconference game into a runaway at Cal Lutheran.

Katie Carpenter and Katie Placido gave the Regals (5-3) a boost off the bench, scoring 17 and 13 points, respectively. Carpenter also had 12 rebounds.

Christina Mosesso scored 11 points and Haley Jones had 11 rebounds for Cal Lutheran, which shot just 35% from the field but held the Banana Slugs (7-3) to 32% shooting.

, The Master’s 54--Lesley DuBois scored 16 points and Karen Gormley had 13 points and seven assists for host Master’s (8-5) in a nonconference game.

Antelope Valley 65, Napa 50--Brandy Smith had 11 points and 14 rebounds in the first round of the Monterey Peninsula tournament.

Smith had nine offensive rebounds. Antelope Valley (4-6) had 54 rebounds, 30 on offense.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Crespi 7, St. Bernard 0--Erick Balderrama and Daniel Rojas each had two goals and two assists in a nonleague game at Crespi (4-3-1).

Simi Valley 3, Newbury Park 0--Brenton Parry had a goal and an assist, and the Pioneers (2-1, 2-0) recorded their second shutout in a Marmonte League game at Simi Valley.

Royal 2, Westlake 0--Bryan Brooks scored in the 12th minute and Randy Wilson scored in the 68th in a Marmonte League game at Westlake. Royal is 6-2-1, 2-0.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Antelope Valley 2, Bakersfield South 0--Marissa Webb scored both goals in a Garces tournament pool-play game. Antelope Valley is 7-0-2.

Agoura 5, Moorpark 0--Jennifer Graham scored two goals in a Marmonte League game at Moorpark (4-5, 0-2).

Megan Landis and Heather Sims each had a goal and two assists.

Agoura is 5-0, 2-0.
