Brea traffic officer Tom Bischetsrieder, who suffered a broken leg, foot and knee in a traffic collision Nov. 30, will need additional surgery to repair his leg, police said Friday.
Bischetsrieder, a nine-year veteran of the department assigned to patrol in Yorba Linda, was scheduled to undergo a second surgery Saturday after doctors reevaluated the condition of his leg, which was operated on after the accident to insert three pins to stabilize the bone.
The accident occurred about 8:20 a.m. in the 18200 block of Yorba Linda Boulevard in Yorba Linda. Police said Bischetsrieder was involved in a collision with a 1998 Mitsubishi Montero driven by Selma Angelica Rodriguez, 39, of Placentia. She was uninjured.
Police said Rodriguez was entering the highway from a private driveway when the two vehicles collided. Information on who was at fault in the accident was not available Friday.
