The View From Manhattan

Saveur magazine, the publication of choice for arch-foodies, has come out with its second list of 100 things its editors like best in the whole wide world. Naturally, the first thing we looked for was how the home team made out. Although we’re not as well represented as, say, Manhattan, Southern California did pretty well again this year.

Among the highlights: Homemade marshmallows from Santa Barbara’s Ocean View Sweets ($10 a pound; [805] 884-5100); Lucques restaurant’s Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne (“Real Food in La-La Land”); the dining car of Amtrak’s Coast Starlight route; the wine list at Santa Barbara’s Paradise Cafe; South Pasadena-based Trader Joe’s (“Grocery Stores We Practically Ransack”); and local author Clifford Wright, whose “A Mediterranean Feast” (William Morrow, $35) was named “Most Delicious History Book You Can Cook From.”
