The top administrator of the Colusa County Fairgrounds near Sacramento has been named the new chief executive officer of Seaside Park in Ventura and the 31st Agricultural District Assn.

Roger Gibbs, 53, will succeed Michael Paluszak, 45, who resigned after 10 years to start his own event management company, according to the park’s board of directors.

Paluszak leaves Dec. 31 and Gibbs will begin Jan. 10. His salary will be $78,000 a year.

“I appreciate their confidence in me and my abilities, and I look forward to leading Seaside Park toward even greater success,” Gibbs said.

In his new position, Gibbs will be responsible for the annual Ventura County Fair and the Derby Club, where gamblers spend $2 million annually on off-site horse wagering.

Gibbs has worked for 16 years as chief executive officer of the 44th District Agricultural Assn. in Colusa County, which is about 60 miles north of the state capital.

Gibbs’ wife, Sharon, is a former Ventura resident. The couple have five sons and three grandchildren.

The park board also announced that it elected Tony Grey president and Georgia Mahan vice president.
