Chaminade Wins in Overtime

Jeff Hufford had 26 points and 12 rebounds to pace Chaminade in a 72-65 overtime victory over Chula Vista Eastlake in the seventh-place game of the San Luis Obispo tournament Thursday night.

Chaminade, ranked No. 6 in the region by The Times, outscored Eastlake, 16-9, in the extra period.

Scott Borchart, the Eagles’ 6-foot-9 junior center, was kept out of the game for safety measures after suffering a head injury Wednesday.

Ryan Arceo had 24 points for Chaminade (4-4), which led, 26-16, at halftime.

St. John Bosco 51, Flintridge Prep 48--Drew Prickett had 10 points in a losing effort in the third-place game of the Downey Calvary Chapel tournament.

Flintridge Prep (6-4) trailed, 40-29, after three quarters, but cut the deficit to one point with less than one minute remaining.

The Braves (6-4) capitalized on a lopsided free-throw advantage, shooting 22 while Flintridge Prep attempted four.

Moorpark 71, Camarillo 68--Todd Tomlinson made two free throws with 14 seconds left for host Moorpark in a nonleague game.

Tomlinson scored 11 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter and made eight of his 10 free throws in that span. Jeff Illions scored 20 points for Moorpark (7-1).

La Canada 48, Verdugo Hills 45--Jordan Ballard and Gary Swaney each scored nine points as La Canada (8-3) won the third-place game of its own tournament.

Kevin Baird had 18 points for the Dons (6-8).

GIRLS

Valencia 61, Crossroads 36--Megan Honoker had 12 points and 13 rebounds for Valencia during pool play of the Bell-Jeff tournament.

Marissa Meadows had 14 points and Valerie Pina had eight assists for Valencia (6-5).

The Vikings outscored Crossroads, 20-9, in the second quarter.

North Hollywood 58, San Gabriel 50--Richelle Sherman had 32 points and 19 rebounds for North Hollywood (7-4) during pool play of the Bell-Jeff tournament.

Kaipresha Price contributed 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Huskies.

Birmingham 65, Reseda 50--Delta Moore scored 19 points and Mshak Ghazarian added 14 in Birmingham’s (5-4) nonleague victory.
