Montana 74, Cal State Northridge 68--The Matadors’s five-game winning streak ended in a Big Sky Conference game before 922 at Northridge.

The Matadors (14-9, 6-5) were tentative against the Grizzlies’ matchup zone and shot 33.3%. Montana (11-12, 4-8) has won three in a row since implementing the zone and each opponent has shot under 40%.

Only guard Greg Minor shot well for Northridge, making six of eight, including four three-point baskets for 17 points.

A basket by Northridge’s Jeff Parris tied the score, 66-66, with 1:45 to play. But on Montana’s next possession, Mike Warhank was fouled with one second left on the shot clock and made two free throws. After another Northridge miss, Cory Reiser made two free throws to extend Montana’s lead to 70-66 with 35 seconds left. The Matadors’ Jeff Parris missed a three-point try with 13.5 seconds left.

Warhank finished with 17 points on six-for-10 shooting.
