Mari Myllykoski scored 23 points and Royal High spoiled Moorpark’s bid for a perfect Marmonte League season with a 68-57 victory Friday night at Royal.

The Highlanders (13-10, 7-5 in league play) clinched third place and held Damaris Hinojosa without a field goal in the final quarter.

Hinojosa, who leads the region in scoring, finished with 35 points.

For Moorpark, ranked No. 2 in the region by The Times, its 17-game winning streak was snapped. The Musketeers (22-2, 11-1), who are playing in the Marmonte for first time, had last lost--to Channel Islands--in the championship game of the Gold Coast tournament in December.

“We knew we could play with them,” Royal Coach Mike Kohl said. “The thing that’s good is that somebody from our league beat them one time, so they’re not invincible.”

Novi Woodard-Parker, a sophomore starting her second game at point guard since being called up from the junior varsity, made a three-pointer to spark a 16-9 Highlander run in the second quarter.

Adary, who scored nine points, made the shot shortly after Mania Houspian, Glendale’s leading scorer at 16.1 per game, had fouled out with four points.

El Camino Real 69, Kennedy 34--Cara Blumfield had 11 points in each half for El Camino Real in a West Valley League game at Kennedy.
