Cal Poly Pulls Away From Long Beach State

Jabbar Washington scored 17 points to lead Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to a 97-79 victory over Long Beach State in a Big West Conference men’s basketball game Saturday at San Luis Obispo.

Jeremiah Mayes scored 16 points and Jason King 15, two of five players in double figures for Cal Poly (10-13, 5-7).

Cal Poly’s Mike Wozniak hit a three-pointer with 7 minutes 46 seconds left in the second half to give the Mustangs their first lead of the game, 68-66. Washington then hit two three-pointers and Wozniak scored on a layup to give Cal Poly a 76-66 lead with 4:13 left.

Long Beach (10-13, 7-6) cut the lead to 83-79 on a jumper by D’Cean Bryant and a tip-in by Ramel Lloyd, but it was as close as the 49ers would get.

Lloyd finished with 19 points to lead Long Beach. Bryant scored 16 points and Mate Milisa 14.

Long Beach, which led at halftime, 50-43, shot 70% (21 for 30) in the first half, but managed only 10 field goals in the second half.
