Pacifica 52, La Verne Bonita 47--Pacifica, the fourth-seeded team in the division, withstood a late rally by visiting Bonita to advance. The Mariners (26-1) led, 46-30, after three quarters but Bonita pulled within five points with two minutes left after a barrage of three-pointers.

Brian Girard then hit a three-pointer with one second left on the shot clock to put the Mariners back in control. Danny Dinh scored 16 points and Jason Simpson had 11 rebounds for Pacifica, which meets Atascadero in Friday’s second round.

Temple City 75, Bolsa Grande 64--Bolsa Grande fell behind, 22-10, in the first half but rallied to tie the score, 31-31, in the third quarter. Temple City then pulled away again with a 7-0 run, and Bolsa Grande (15-12) couldn’t close the gap to fewer than five points the rest of the way.

The Matadors were led by Alfanso Martinez, who scored a career-high 26 points.

In Division V-A:

Heritage Christian 72, Los Angeles Pacific Christian 43--Matt Winter scored 20 points to lead host Heritage Christian (15-9), which led 26-9 after one quarter. Pacific Christian finished 7-12.

Orangewood Academy 65, Banning Twin Pines 54--Patrick Rainey had 15 points, 15 rebounds and 12 assists for Orangewood Academy (18-8), which will play the Emmanuel Christian-Bethel Christian winner.

Southwestern Academy 69, Tarbut V’Torah 45--Tarbut V’Torah finished its first season of boys’ basketball 12-9.

In a Division V-AA wild-card game:

North Hollywood Campbell Hall 83, St. Margaret’s 48--Jesse Foster, a 6-foot-7 junior center from host Campbell Hall, scored 22 points, grabbed 19 rebounds and blocked four shots.

Campbell Hall (18-9), the third-place finisher in the Delphic League, will travel to Whitewater in a first-round game on Friday.

“They didn’t have any big people, so I went inside,” said Foster, who had a four-inch height advantage over the tallest St. Margaret’s player.

Campbell Hall was leading only, 30-23, at halftime, but outscored the Tartans, 30-13, in the third quarter. The key was getting more players involved in the offense besides Foster.

Greg Drobnick scored 11 of his 15 points in the quarter. Hassan Bassiri finished with 19 points and Josh Levy added 15 points and 12 rebounds for Campbell Hall.

Brian Sternberg scored 19 points and Alex Huff, averaging 23.5 points, had 18 points for St. Margaret’s (12-10).
