Mike Sell of the United States defeated Dinu Pescariu of Romania, 6-2, 6-0, to advance to the quarterfinals at the Laguna Hills ATP Challenger.

Also advancing were top-seeded Andrew Ilie of Australia, who beat American Geoff Grang, 6-3, 6-4, and Nenad Zimonjic of Yugoslavia, who defeated Julian Alonzo of Spain, 6-1, 6-2. Other second-round winners were Brazil’s Andre Sa, who beat Ronald Agenor of Haiti, 6-1, 6-2; and Alex Calatrava of Spain, who upset the second-seeded Mariano Zabaleta of Argentina, 7-6, 6-2.

In doubles, brothers Bob and Mike Bryan of Camarillo edged Slava Dosedel of Czechoslovakia and Alonzo, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

The top Southern Section wrestlers in divisions I, II, III, IV and V will compete in the Masters meet today and Saturday at Fountain Valley High.

Competition begins at 4 p.m. today and continues at 9 a.m. Saturday. The semifinals are scheduled for noon Saturday with the finals at 1 p.m.

Calvary Chapel, which finished second to Temecula Valley in last Saturday’s Division I team championships, will attempt to win its sixth state title in the last seven years.

The Eagles qualified seven wrestlers for the Masters tournament, the most of any county team in Division I. El Modena was next with six, leading a contingent of 22 wrestlers from the Century League.

Santa Ana, the Division II team champion, qualified 12 wrestlers. Dana Hills and Irvine each have four.

The top eight finishers in each division qualify for the state championships, March 5-6, in Stockton.
