Jay Johnson has been named football coach at Calvary Chapel High, Athletic Director Joe Walters said. Johnson had been coach at Covina Western Christian the past two seasons.

Johnson replaces Bill Lapes, who compiled an 11-16-3 record in three seasons.

Three junior sailors from the Newport Harbor Yacht Club finished seventh in the Coca Cola Cup Youth International Match Race Regatta, the junior America’s Cup, Saturday in New Zealand.

Skipper Brian Bissell and crew Jamie McCormick and Troy Treaccar won four of six races in the consolation round to decide fifth through 11th places. The Royal Yachting Assn. of Great Britain finished fifth and King Harbor Yacht Club of Redondo Beach, which defeated Newport Harbor in the final race, finished sixth.

Royal Price Albert Yacht Club of Australia and Royal New Zealand Yacht Club Squadron Red are racing in today’s final.

Bissell, who attends Georgetown, and McCormick (USC) are 1998 Newport Harbor High graduates and Treaccar is a senior at the school.

The Toshiba Senior Classic Celebrity Pro-Am, March 8 at Newport Beach Country Club, will feature current and former professional football players and benefit the Deacon Jones Foundation and the Hoag Heart Institute.

Each pro-am fivesome will include a football player--Deacon Jones, Junior Seau, Bruce Smith, Jack Ham, Jack Youngblood, Fred Biletnikoff are among those scheduled to appear--a Senior Tour player and three amateurs.

The Deacon Jones Foundation works with inner-city youths to help them improve their neighborhoods.

The event begins tournament week at the country club. The senior tour tournament is March 12-14. Advance tickets are $12.
