Burroughs 78, Saugus 69--Burroughs outscored visiting Saugus, 12-3, in the second overtime of a Foothill League opener that featured buzzer-beating three-point baskets by both teams.

Chad Frenzel of Burroughs (9-7) connected from long distance at the regulation buzzer to tie the score, 60-60. Saugus’ Doug Summorhays made a three-pointer at the close of the first overtime to make the score 66-66.

Kevin Krose, who led Burroughs with 22 points, scored nine in the overtimes, including five in the second.

Simi Valley 95, Westlake 61--The Pioneers, ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times, used a 22-5 run in the third quarter to break open a close Marmonte League game at Westlake.

Westlake had pulled to within 52-45 before Simi Valley (13-2, 2-0 in league play) pulled away behind center Rafael Berumen, who scored 12 of his 23 points in the third quarter. In addition, Berumen finished with 12 rebounds and six blocks.

Brett Michel scored 25 points, including four three-point baskets, and had eight of the Pioneers’ school-record 34 assists. Branduinn Fullove contributed 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists, and Shaun Michel had 14 assists.

Albert Kim scored 19 points for Westlake (7-9, 0-2).

Agoura 64, Royal 61--Garrett Lepisto made a basket from the baseline with 40 seconds left to account for the final margin and Agoura stopped Royal on two late possessions in a Marmonte League game at Agoura.

Lepisto and Adam Allegro each finished with 18 points for Agoura (8-8, 2-0)..

Dustin Cruz had 17 points for Royal (0-2 in league play).

Newbury Park 71, Moorpark 58--The Panthers’ man-to-man defense yielded 21 points each to Todd Tomlinson and Shawn Corkery, but made the rest of the Moorpark offense disappear in a Marmonte League victory at Newbury Park.

Brian Bobik had 15 points, seven assists and five steals for No. 9-ranked Newbury Park (10-4, 2-1). Anthony Foli and Nick Czernek each scored 12 points for the Panthers. Moorpark is 10-5, 1-1.

Santa Clara 85, Malibu 51--Senior guards Nick Jones and B.J. Ward combined to score 39 points in 16 minutes of play for the No. 2-ranked Saints (16-1) in a Frontier League opener at Santa Clara.

Jones led the way with 25 points and 14 rebounds.

Notre Dame 54, Loyola 51--The Knights rallied from a 10-point deficit with three minutes to play in regulation, then outscored Loyola, 7-4, in overtime in a Mission League game at Notre Dame.

Sophomore Cody Pearson, who led Notre Dame (7-9, 1-1) with 25 points and 10 rebounds, made two three-point baskets to trigger the run. Chris Williams made two free throws with 20 seconds left to tie the score, 47-47.

In overtime, Dante Ward made three free throws as Notre Dame scored the first four points.

Grant 87, Granada Hills 70--Gilbert Arenas scored 30 points, including two three-point baskets, and the No. 6-ranked Lancers (12-3) breezed in a nonconference game at Grant.

Grant took the lead for good five minutes into the game and built a 49-23 halftime margin. Arenas made 12 of 21 shots from the field and sank all four of his free throws. Daniel Tarr had 11 points for Grant.

Alonzo Parks had 13 points for Granada Hills.

Palisades 51, Canoga Park 43--After tying the score, 34-34, with six minutes to play, the Hunters (3-11) committed turnovers on consecutive possessions and fell behind Palisades (8-3) in a nonconference game at Canoga Park.

Jammie Harris, Canoga Park’s best player, was suspended for missing practice and did not play.
