Gracia Scores 30 to Lead Loara Victory

Herbert Gracia scored 30 points, had seven steals and five assists to lead Loara to a 67-59 victory over Katella in an Empire League boys’ basketball game at Katella.

Loara, ranked 10th in the county, trailed, 43-41, going into the fourth quarter, but Gracia scored 13 of his 30 points in the fourth as Loara outscored the Knights, 26-16.

Wes Wardrop added 17 points for the Knights, Ben Wardrop had 14 and Trevor Holton scored five points and had 12 rebounds.

Matt Tisthammer led Katella (13-4, 0-1) with 15 points.

In other Empire League games:

Century 53, El Dorado 41--Mike Zepeda led all scorers with 23 points and 11 rebounds for Century (7-10, 1-0). Teammate Paul Ferretti scored eight of his 16 points in the fourth quarter.

Cypress 45, Kennedy 35--Justin Yun and Alphonso Stovall each scored 11 points in the victory for Cypress (6-11, 1-0). Stovall also had 11 rebounds.

Tony Jimmerson had 19 points for Kennedy.

In the Academy League:

Capistrano Valley Christian 47, St. Michael’s 38--Jamie Tellier had 16 points and David Roth added eight for Capistrano Valley Christian (8-7, 2-0). St. Michael’s is 4-4, 1-1.

In the Century League:

Foothill 85, El Modena 51--Alex Rasmussen scored a season-high 28 points, including six three-pointers, to lead Foothill (14-3, 1-0). Drew Buford (15 points) had 12 assists in three quarters before fouling out with seven minutes left in the game. He has 194 assists this season. Chad Bigler scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half for Foothill (14-3, 1-0).

Villa Park 73, Santa Ana Valley 54--Eliu Fatu scored 17 points and had nine rebounds and Hardy Fatu scored 15 points for host Santa Ana Valley (6-10, 0-1).

In the Freeway League:

Buena Park 47, Troy 38--DeAndre Gipson had four three-pointers in the fourth quarter for Buena Park (13-4, 1-0). He finished with a game-high 18 points. Matt Okoro had 15 rebounds and five blocks to go with his 11 points for the Coyotes. Troy is 9-7, 0-1.

In the Garden Grove League:

Bolsa Grande 71, La Quinta 55--Down 17-12, host Bolsa Grande went on a 23-0 run to take a commanding 40-23 lead at halftime. Jon James had 23 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots to lead the team in all categories.

Los Amigos 65, Santiago 43--A half-court trap imposed by Los Amigos (11-5, 2-0) allowed the Lobos to outscore Santiago, 20-3, in the second quarter. Alvaro Arcos hit three three-pointers for Los Amigos.

Rancho Alamitos 65, Garden Grove 52--Willie Montgomery scored 28 points and had 13 rebounds for Rancho Alamitos (7-8, 1-0), which led 32-24 at the half. Brad Steen had 15 points for Rancho Alamitos.

In the Golden West League:

Saddleback 68, Westminster 48--T.J. Foster hit four three-pointers and Ben Hughes got 13 of his 20 points in the second quarter to lead Saddleback (8-10, 1-1).

In the Olympic League:

Calvary Chapel 52, Maranatha 42--J.J. Pangan and Brett Young each scored 11 points for Calvary Chapel (8-7, 1-1). Maranatha is 9-7, 1-1.

Orange Lutheran 62, Brethren Christian 50--Jason Wieldon had 24 points and four three-pointers for Orange Lutheran (7-7, 1-1). Kyle Painter also had four three-pointers for Brethren Christian (4-12, 0-2). He finished with a team-high 16 points.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Aliso Niguel 57, Laguna Beach 45--Dave Camindina scored 14 points and had five assists to lead host Aliso Niguel (9-7, 1-0). The Wolverines outscored Laguna Beach, 19-8, in the third quarter to take a 41-26 lead. Ryan Ross added 13 points and Robert Deven had eight rebounds and four points for Aliso Niguel.

University 70, Laguna Hills 67--Chet Johnson scored 24 points as visiting University rallied from a 29-26 halftime deficit. Larry Brown and Andy Lawrence each had 14 points for the Trojans.

Josh Pierson scored 24 points and had six assists for Laguna Hills (8-8, 0-1) and Jeff Eittreim had 20 points and eight rebounds.

In the Sunset League:

Fountain Valley 73, Huntington Beach 38--Fountain Valley (11-5, 1-0) was nine of 13 from the field, including Zach Hardin’s four-for-four performance from three-point range.

Marina 62, Edison 57--The Vikings outscored the Chargers, 18-10, in the fourth quarter. Edison had 24 fouls and Marina had 13. Dustin Kaatz scored 17 points for Marina.
