Jenkins Works Overtime, Lifts Crescenta Valley Over Hoover

Sophomore center James Jenkins scored 25 points, including five in overtime, and had 22 rebounds to help Crescenta Valley High defeat Hoover, 72-59, in a Pacific League basketball game Tuesday at Crescenta Valley.

The Falcons (14-4, 1-1 in league play) avenged a loss to Hoover in the Burbank-Hoover tournament last month.

Freshman Chris Tarne, who finished with 15 points and nine assists, made four free throws in overtime to help Crescenta Valley outscore Hoover, 18-5.

Zareh Avedian, who scored 33 points in Hoover’s 84-70 victory over the Falcons last month, was held to 11 points. He missed a free throw with the score tied, 54-54, and six seconds left in regulation.

Chris Rubio scored 25 for Hoover (6-11, 0-2).

In other games:

Pasadena 65, Glendale 50--Artin Adjamian scored 12 points for the Dynamiters (9-8, 1-1) in a Pacific League loss at Pasadena.

Jason Ridley scored 16 points, and Kevin Richard and Reggie Harmon each added 15 for Pasadena (13-5, 2-0).

Canyon 60, Hart 26--Reserves Jimmy Jennings and Albert Castaneda jump-started the Cowboys’ offense to a Foothill League victory at Canyon.

Castaneda, who scored 19 points, replaced shooting guard Jason French late in the first quarter with Canyons (9-8, 2-0) trailing, 11-6.

Jennings, who had 20 points and 10 rebounds, replaced center Jason Ezell early in the second quarter.

Tamir Barkan had 11 points for Hart (11-7, 0-2). Ezell and Everett Bryson held Liam Waters of Hart, averaging 16.6 points, to four points.

Valencia 73, Burroughs 63--Sophomores Albert Ingram and Will Broadous played big roles in the Vikings’ Foothill League victory at Valencia.

Ingram scored 14 points and Broadous had nine points and 13 rebounds for the Vikings (9-9, 2-0).

Eskias McDaniels scored 18 points for Valencia.

Kevin Krose scored 27 points for Burroughs (9-8, 1-1).

Calabasas 69, Malibu 53--Senior guard Michael Goldman came within three steals of a quadruple-double for the Coyotes in a Frontier League victory at Malibu.

Goldman had 24 points, 16 rebounds, 14 assists and seven steals. He sparked a 16-0 run in the fourth quarter that broke a 48-48 tie, contributing eight points and four assists.

Spencer Hariton had 16 points and Andrew Macalla added 12 for Calabasas (8-10, 1-1).

Nordhoff 51, Santa Paula 42--Andy Flores scored 21 points and Etienne Emanuel added 19 for the Rangers (13-2, 1-0), who allowed only four fourth-quarter points in a Frontier League victory at Santa Paula (8-10, 1-1).

Pasadena Marshall 74, Paraclete 70--The Spirits made only eight of 20 free throws in an Alpha League defeat at Paraclete.

Glenn Jones scored 18 points for the Spirits (5-11, 0-1).

Highland Hall 51, West Valley Christian 46--Scott Thomsen scored 13 of his 23 points in the third quarter and the Hawks (3-6, 1-1) overcame a 26-23 halftime deficit to win a Westside League game at West Valley Christian.

First Lutheran 65, Ribet Academy 48--John Stark scored 19 points and Robert Johnson had 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Falcons (5-5, 1-1) in a Heritage League victory at First Lutheran.
