Three Goals by Carbone Help San Clemente Edge Dana Hills
Sari Wheaton’s early fourth-quarter score proved to be the winner as San Clemente defeated visiting Dana Hills, 8-7, in a South Coast League girls’ water polo game Thursday.
Christy Carbone scored three goals to lead the Tritons, who improved to 8-7, 2-0. Shelly Applebee and Nicole Peter each scored two goals and Erin Davis made eight saves for San Clemente.
In the Freeway League:
Sonora 9, Fullerton 6--Katie Davis scored four goals, Laura McNabb scored three and Courtney Robertson made 16 saves for visiting Sonora (8-5, 3-0).
In nonleague girls’ water polo:
Canyon 7, Costa Mesa 4--Lauren Volcan scored four goals and Jaime Hamilton made 17 saves for Canyon (13-3, 1-0), which took a 5-0 halftime lead.
In Academy League boys’ basketball:
St. Margaret’s 72, St. Michael’s 66--Alex Huff had 34 points and seven three-pointers to lead host St. Margaret’s (7-5, 3-1). Jon Miller had 22 points for St. Michael’s (4-6, 1-4).
In Freeway League boys’ soccer:
Buena Park 5, Troy 1--Alejandro Ramos scored the first two goals of the game for Buena Park (9-7, 3-0).
La Habra 2, Sunny Hills 2--Angel Quintero scored both goals for visiting La Habra (3-7-4, 1-1-1). Sunny Hills is 2-11-2, 0-2-1.
