Hammad, Hogan Lead Canyon Past Foothill

Neil Hammad scored 33 points and Roger Hogan had 23, including five three-pointers, to help visiting Canyon defeat Foothill, the 10th-ranked team in the county, 65-62, in a Century League boys’ basketball game Friday.

Canyon (10-6, 3-0 in league) trailed by three after three quarters before rallying.

Drew Buford scored 24 points for Foothill (14-5, 1-2).

Orange 62, Santa Ana Valley 50--Steve Miller scored 17 of his 28 points in second half for Orange.

In the Empire League:

No. 8 Loara 72, Cypress 56--Herbert Gracia had 26 points and seven assists, and Johnny Patton had 12 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots for Loara (17-2, 3-0).

El Dorado 57, Kennedy 54--El Dorado’s Richard Nagy made a three-point play--a layup and free throw--with four seconds remaining. Kennedy junior Jason Grier made a three-pointer to tie it with 10 seconds remaining.

In the Express League:

Norwalk Pioneer Baptist 70, Liberty Christian 52--Sergio Andonian scored 25 points, making six three-pointers, for host Liberty Christian (2-7, 0-2).

In the Freeway League:

Buena Park 67, Fullerton 53--Matt Okoro led the visiting Coyotes with 25 points, 21 rebounds and 12 blocked shots and teammate Dre Gipson had 24 points.

In the Golden West League:

No. 6 Ocean View 51, Santa Ana 34--Tony Dow had nine points and seven assists for host Ocean View (16-3, 4-0), which took to a 17-7 lead in the first quarter.

No. 9 Tustin 59, Saddleback 51--Chris Chatman scored 14 points and Ken Crabb and Peter Johnston each scored 12 for Tustin (14-5, 3-1).

Servite 62, Westminster 60 (OT)--Matt Ponsford scored off a rebound at the buzzer for host Servite (10-9, 2-2). Andrew Moore scored six of Servite’s 12 points in overtime and Ted Ranzan scored 17 points for the Friars.

In the Garden Grove League:

No. 7 Pacifica 84, Rancho Alamitos 64--Adam Rachlin scored a season-high 27 points, going 11 for 14 from the field, to lead Pacifica (17-1, 4-0), which outscored Rancho Alamitos, 23-9, in the first quarter.

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 68, Ontario Christian 55--Jason Whieldon scored 26 points for visiting Orange Lutheran (9-7, 3-1).

Whittier Christian 74, Brethren Christian 51--Jon Stoa scored 37 points and Steven Zieman had 10 blocked shots and five points for host Whittier Christian (11-7, 2-2).

In the Orange League:

No. 5 Brea-Olinda 81, Valencia 45--Ryan Wilber scored 16 points, Jerett Skrifvars had 13 points and 12 rebounds and Kyle Dodd had 12 points and nine assists for the host Wildcats (16-2, 2-0).

Magnolia 71, Western 49--Artty Upattiya had a school-record 15 assists and Asi Faoa scored 31 points for Magnolia (10-8, 2-0).

Savanna 69, Anaheim 60--Solomon Brown scored 23 points for visiting Savanna (12-6, 1-1).

No. 3 Santa Margarita 59, El Toro 49--Spencer Gloger scored 26 points for Santa Margarita (16-2, 3-0), making 10 of 19 from the field.

No. 4 Newport Harbor 55, Corona del Mar 37--Gary Robinson (18 points) scored half of Newport Harbor’s points during a 20-8 run in the third quarter. Matt Jameson scored 11 points and had nine assists for the Sailors (18-2, 3-0), who are off to the best start in school history.

Irvine 61, Woodbridge 58--Woodbridge’s Scott Barlow missed three-point shot at the buzzer. Chris Ferguson led Irvine (14-5, 1-2) with 21 points.

In the South Coast League:

No. 1 Mater Dei 76, Dana Hills 47--The Monarchs (18-2, 4-0) built a 27-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, then added steadily to their total, as four players scored in double figures, led by Mike Strawberry’s 14. Brett Nowell had 13 for the host Dolphins (8-12, 1-3).

Mission Viejo 69, San Clemente 61--Francis Ireifej scored 18 points for Mission Viejo (9-11, 1-3).
