Laguna Hills, Aliso Niguel Play to 1-1 Tie in Soccer

Each team scored in the closing minutes as eighth-ranked Laguna Hills and ninth-ranked Aliso Niguel played to a 1-1 tie in a Pacific Coast League girls’ soccer game Tuesday at Laguna Hills.

Vanessa Rocha scored the tying goal with three minutes left in the game for Laguna Hills.

Kim Devine had given Aliso Niguel (9-2-4, 2-0-2) a 1-0 lead with seven minutes to play.

Laguna Hills is 16-2-1, 3-0-1.

In Century League girls’ soccer:

El Modena 2, Canyon 1--Vicki Bloom scored the winning goal for visiting El Modena (8-4-2, 3-0-1). Canyon is 3-1 in league.

In the Empire League

Kennedy 2, Cypress 1--Regina Vinson scored on a header in the second minute, Stephanie Giles scored on a 15-yard shot in the 11th minute and Melissa Cureton made 10 saves for visiting Kennedy (9-5, 3-1). Tiffany Dinoso scored for Cypress in the 73rd minute.

In the Garden Grove League:

Pacifica 1, Garden Grove 0--Colleen Blaylock assisted on Mary Molloy’s first-half goal to lift Pacifica (15-1-4, 5-0-0). Carrie Yoak had 21 saves for Garden Grove (6-7-0, 4-1-0).

In the Orange League:

Anaheim 1, Magnolia 0--Priscilla Rodriguez scored off an assist by Linda Lozano for Anaheim (6-3-1, 2-1). Magnolia’s Amanda Eatmon had 17 saves.

In the Sea View League:

No. 4 Woodbridge 5, El Toro 0--Janelle Loudat had two goals and one assist for host Woodbridge (10-2-5, 1-0-3). El Toro is 7-6-1, 2-2.

In the South Coast League:

Dana Hills 0, No. 3 Mission Viejo 0--Hannah Cochrun and Nichole McCarty helped Mission Viejo avert a loss, combining for six saves for the visiting Diablos (12-4-4). Katie Shields made five for Dana Hills (5-10-1, 1-3-1).

No. 10 Mater Dei 2, Trabuco Hills 2--Alison Fannell scored early in the first half for Mater Dei (9-3-4, 1-1-3). Trabuco Hills’ Bethany Cray and Cassie Wittik scored in the second half.

In the Sunset League:

No. 2 Los Alamitos 3, Huntington Beach 1--Los Alamitos (14-1-3, 3-0-1) scored two goals in the last four minutes. Jennie Levin’s goal gave the Griffins a 2-1 lead and Monique Gillaspie scored two minutes later to secure the victory. Huntington Beach is 5-5-1, 0-2-2.

No. 6 Edison 4, Fountain Valley 1--Senior LeeAnn Morton scored two goals and had two assists for Edison (12-4-2, 2-1-1).

No. 7 Esperanza 1, Marina 0--Janelle Raaf scored her third goal in her last two league games for host Esperanza (9-5-5, 3-1). Marina is 9-7-3, 2-2.

In Freeway League boys’ soccer:

Fullerton 1, Troy 0--Joaquin Rincon scored in the 61st minute on a penalty kick and Aaron McCann made three saves for his second league shutout and fifth overall for Fullerton (6-7-2, 2-1-1). Brett Brown made nine saves for host Troy (9-6-1, 1-2-1).

In the Olympic League:

Calvary Chapel 2, Ontario Christian 1--Tim Metzger scored the winner on a penalty kick five minutes into second half for his team-leading 14th goal of the season. Aaron Barney scored in the first half for Calvary Chapel (6-8, 3-2). Ryan Messick scored for Ontario Christian (13-7, 1-4).

In Garden Grove League wrestling:

Santiago 50, Garden Grove 23--Bryan Thomas’ pin at 160 pounds and a technical fall by his brother James at 171 pounds started Santiago’s roll in the upper weights. Heavyweight Joe Bonilla capped the match for Santiago (24-7, 4-0) with pin in 56 seconds.
