Running back DeAngelo Nedd of El Camino Real High has committed to San Diego State and his teammate, linebacker Blane Kezirian, will attend UCLA.

BASKETBALL

Teresa Palmisano, a Thousand Oaks resident who played at Buena High, has been selected for the women’s all-star game Jan. 31 in Montreux, Switzerland.

Palmisano, 29, who plays professionally for Troistorrents, Switzerland, attended California.

Samantha Rigley, a senior guard from Alemany High, became the sixth player in Pepperdine women’s history to reach 300 career assists when she notched nine in a recent game against Gonzaga.

Jeffrey Osborne will sing the national anthem tonight before Birmingham plays Chatsworth in a Northwest Valley Conference boys’ game at 6:30 p.m. at Chatsworth.

Osborne’s daughter is a Chatsworth cheerleader and a friend of Coach Fluke Fluker.

SOFTBALL

Cal State Northridge will host Long Beach City College in an exhibition game Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Matadors will hold a clinic for youngsters at 9 a.m.

VOLLEYBALL

A season-opening tune-up turned into disaster for the Cal State Northridge men’s volleyball team when the Matadors, who had defeated La Verne in 18 previous matches, fell to the host Leopards (2-1) in five games Wednesday.

Freshman Eckhard Walter had 20 kills, but also eight hitting errors.

“It was just too quiet, almost like we were just going through the motions,” said outside hitter Junior Mosones, who had 19 kills. “It was very disappointing.”

The Matadors begin Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play Saturday at UC San Diego.
