Woman Critically Injured in Accident
A pregnant Arleta woman was critically injured and her 7-month fetus killed in a single-car accident Monday on the Ventura Freeway.
Joanna Rodriguez, 20, was traveling eastbound on the freeway around noon when she attempted to make a sharp right turn at the White Oak Avenue offramp, said Officer Bob Granieri of the California Highway Patrol.
Rodriguez, who was going about 70 mph, lost control of her sport utility vehicle, struck a tree and then rammed an embankment, Granieri said.
Rescuers had to cut through the tree to remove Rodriguez from the vehicle. She was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center in critical condition, Granieri said.
