Irvin Seeded Fourth in National Indoor

Marissa Irvin, 1997 Southern Section tennis champion from Harvard-Westlake High who is a Stanford freshman, enters the Rolex National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships next week as the No. 4-seeded player in the women’s draw.

The tournament, the third leg of the Intercollegiate Tennis Assn. Grand Slam, is scheduled for Feb. 3-7 at Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas.

Irvin is coming off a victory two weeks ago in the National Collegiate Tennis Classic at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks.

SOCCER

Kristin Carlson, a senior defender at Newbury Park, has committed to San Francisco.

FOOTBALL

Ken Berry resigned last week after two seasons as coach at Bell-Jeff High, said Jim Couch, the school’s athletic director.

Berry had a 5-15 record that included a 4-10 mark in Santa Fe League play in his two seasons.

GOLF

Brian Hull of La Canada shot an even-par 71 in the final round and finished in a three-way tie for second in the Teardrop Tour’s Phoenix Classic Friday at Pavilion Lakes Golf Course in Arizona.

Hull had a 54-hole score of 205, four strokes behind champion Kent Jones of Las Cruces, N.M., who fired a 61 Friday.
