A brush fire Thursday destroyed one home and scorched 200 acres of grass, brush and trees near the rural Butte County community of Palermo.

No injuries were reported. The California Department of Forestry asked residents of 75 to 100 homes to leave until the fire was under control, spokesman Fred Orsborn said.

About 20 fire trucks and seven air tankers were brought in to fight the blaze in the rural area south of Oroville, which is dotted with farms and small trailer parks, Orsborn said.

Investigators did not know what started the fire, but the wind, low humidity and high temperature played a role as firefighters tried to control it.
