Crew Takes Care of Burn

Jeff Cunningham had a goal and an assist as the Columbus Crew beat the Dallas Burn, 4-1, in Major League Soccer Saturday night before 19,356 in Ohio.

Cunningham put Columbus (12-7) up, 2-0, after collecting a shot by Stern John that ricocheted off Dallas defender Eric Dade and shooting it past Burn goalkeeper Matt Jordan in the 42nd minute. It was his seventh goal of the year.

Ted Eck scored for Dallas (10-10) in the 90th minute.

Miami 1, New York-New Jersey 0--Edwin Gorter scored on a 30-yard free kick in the 84th minute to lift the Fusion (7-12) over the struggling MetroStars (5-13) before 13,608 in East Rutherford, N.J.

Gorter’s second goal of the season sailed into the upper right corner of the net after MetroStar midfielder Mike Sorber had fouled Welton.

The victory was Miami’s third in a row.
