From Staff and wire reports

A wildfire in the Cajon Pass consumed 2,500 acres and threatened homes Sunday in the tiny Mojave Desert community of Phelan.

As of late Sunday, authorities reported no injuries but said they had evacuated residents in Phelan’s southern section and inhabitants of ranches in the northwestern Cajon Valley.

About 600 firefighters from local, state and federal agencies were battling the blaze in San Bernardino County, about 70 miles northeast of Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, firefighters in northern Santa Barbara County were still struggling to keep a fire that has burned 14,000 acres out of the nearby San Rafael Wilderness.
