Division V Baseball Final

Calvary Chapel vs. Los Angeles Baptist

Where--Blair Field, 7:30 p.m.

Calvary Chapel (27-1-1)--Coach Joe Walters said his Olympic League champions could be better than the 1994 team that was the Division V runner-up and the 1995 team that won the Division V title. It definitely has been a tremendous year for the Eagles, who have not lost in their last 26 games (one tie) and have outscored opponents, 47-1, in four playoff games. Brett Young (14-0), who starts tonight, has won all four playoff games.

Los Angeles Baptist (18-6)--The Knights finished third in the Alpha League, but got hot in the playoffs and has reached the final for the first time in the school’s 39-year history. The key to their surge was the return of pitcher Scott Swenson (6-0), who has recovered from a March 26 arm injury to win three playoff games. Swenson is at first base tonight while Evan Regenstreif (7-2), who has Baptist’s other playoff victory, starts. Sophomore Andrew Petersen (.482, 10 home runs, 39 RBIs) carries the big bat in the Knights’ lineup.

Key to the game--Baptist needs to keep the game close and avoid a slugfest. Calvary Chapel, which has had a relatively easy time in the playoffs, must not come into the game overconfident.
