Crescenta Valley’s Cervenka Doubles Up

Meredith Cervenka struck out 26 in two games for Crescenta Valley High at the Downey softball tournament Saturday.

Cervenka (2-0) allowed three hits and struck out 12 in a 10-2 quarterfinal victory over Norwalk that was called after six innings due to a time limit.

Earlier, she fanned 14 while holding South Gate to one hit in a 1-0 first-round victory.

Melinda Moulden doubled and tripled for the Falcons (2-0) against Norwalk (1-1).

Erica Fernandez hit a home run for Crescenta Valley in the victory over South Gate (0-1).

In another Downey tournament game:

Thousand Oaks 4, Downey 0--Kim Martin had seven runs batted in two games, including a grand slam for the Lancers (2-0).

Thousand Oaks defeated Garfield, 11-0, in the first game.

In the Hart tournament:

Hart 5, Ventura 0--Lindsey Kontra pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts for the Indians (2-0) at Hart.

In an earlier game, Jocelyn Evans’ run-scoring single in the sixth lifted the Indians to a 3-2 victory over El Camino Real.

Highland 4, Hoover 1--Melissa Rawson broke a 1-1 tie by scoring on a sixth-inning single by Keri Pulcifer in the second round.

Pulcifer and Ashlie D’Errico each had two hits for Highland (2-0), which defeated Sylmar, 10-4, in an earlier game.

Hoover 3, Sylmar 0--Cori Herbert pitched a no-hitter for Hoover (1-1).

Herbert had 15 strikeouts and one walk.

Westlake 14, Granada Hills 0--Katyln Wilson had a two-run home run and Aja Baker pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the Warriors (2-0).

Westlake defeated Quartz Hill, 5-0, in an earlier game. Rachel Murray had a solo home run and Erin Voeltz pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts.

Valencia 7, Monroe 0--Lauren Watson hit a solo home run, her second of the day, and had two RBIs for the Vikings.

Earlier, Michelle Smith pitched a no-hitter, striking out six, for the Vikings in a 3-0 victory over Santa Monica.

In the Westridge Tournament:

Flintridge Sacred Heart 7, Flintridge Prep 1--Catherine Hugar hit a three-run triple to highlight a four-run sixth for Flintridge Sacred Heart in a second-round game at Brookside Park in Pasadena.

Earlier, Flintridge Sacred Heart (3-0) defeated Montclair Prep, 1-0.

In the Simi Valley tournament:

Simi Valley 4, Lompoc 0--Jenni Shields hit a two-run double in the fifth inning for the Pioneers.

Brittney Green of Simi Valley pitched a no-hitter with eight strikeouts and one walk.

The Pioneers defeated Oxnard, 3-0, in the second round.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Valencia tournament--Lee Weinstein of Granada Hills won the singles title, and Andrew Davidson and Todd Castagna of Hart claimed the doubles title in the third annual Valencia Spring Smash tournament at Valencia High.

Hart won the championship of the eight-team tournament by winning 11 sets. Second-place Granada Hills won 10 and Valencia finished third with eight sets.
