Andrews’ 67 Betters His Best by Two for Nordhoff

Shawn Andrews of Nordhoff High shot a five-under-par 67 to help the Rangers to a 375-394 victory over Buena in a nonleague boys’ golf match Wednesday at Soule Park in Ojai.

Andrews, a senior who finished fourth in the Frontier League championships last year, had an eagle and three birdies to post the lowest score by a Nordhoff player over a regulation course in the last 20 years, according to Coach Dick Sebek.

The eagle came on No. 11, a 526-yard, par-5 hole. Andrews reached the green in two shots and sank a 20-foot putt for Nordhoff (4-1).

Andrews has shot two-under-par 69s twice this season. The first was against Dos Pueblos at Glen Annie Golf Club in Goleta two weeks ago and the second was against Moorpark at Elkins Ranch Golf Course in Fillmore last week.

In other golf matches:

Calabasas 357, Agoura 403, Malibu 498--Aaron Levine had five birdies in route to a two-under-par 65 for Calabasas in a nonleague match at Westlake Golf Course.

Justin Ohye had three birdies and shot an even-par 67 for Calabasas (5-0).

Simi Valley 384, Channel Islands 506--Chris MacLaughlin shot a one-under-par 71 to help the Pioneers to victory in the nonleague match at River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard.

MacLaughlin fired a two-under-par 34 on the back nine, shooting four birdies and two bogeys.

He had five birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey in the match.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Crespi 15, Alemany 3--Mike Smith, Hutson Olsen and Andrew Pineda each registered singles sweeps of Archie Prudencia, Melvin Chua and Gabriel Hadjidamianou and the Celts (3-2, 2-1) won a Mission League match at Braemar Country Club.

Carlos Gil and Ray Purwadihardja (14-1), No. 2 doubles team for Crespi, won two of three sets but also suffered their first loss of the season.

Rio Mesa 9, San Marcos 9--Quinn Borchard defeated Andrew Moel, 6-0, at No. 1 singles and the Spartans won a nonleague match on games, 88-71, at San Marcos.

Borchard added a 6-3 victory over Matt Baer, who was playing at No. 2 singles for San Marcos (5-3, 1-1).

Chris Worthington and Khai Nguyen scored two 6-0, 6-0 victories for Rio Mesa (4-0), but lost to San Marcos’ No. 1 team, 7-5.

Westlake 17, Royal 1--Mike Horak won his three matches, 6-3, 6-0 and 6-2, at No. 1 singles for the Warriors in a Marmonte League victory at Westlake Village Golf Course. Westlake is 4-0, 2-0 in league play.

BASEBALL

North Hollywood 14, Van Nuys 2--John Baca and Miguel Cabrera each had two hits, three RBIs and scored twice to help the Huskies win a Valley Pac-8 Conference opener at North Hollywood.

The game was called after 4 1/2 innings because of the 10-run rule.

Jake Rand had two hits, two RBIs and scored twice for the Huskies (2-4).

Cesar Sanchez (1-1) gave up one hit, one unearned run, struck out seven and walked three in four innings.

Grant 14, Canoga Park 0--Mark Soulema hit a run-scoring triple and the Lancers turned the game into a rout in the second inning of a Valley Pac-8 conference opener at Canoga Park.

Grant (5-1) scored nine runs in the second.

Oak Park 9, Calabasas 7--Ryan Duffy hit a two-run triple during a three-run fifth for the Eagles, who broke open a 6-6 nonleague game at Oak Park.

David Wurth added two hits and two RBIs for Oak Park (2-1).

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Thousand Oaks def. Westlake, 15-4, 15-8, 15-6--Mark Kobal and Jack Parmalee each had eight kills to help the Lancers (3-1) win a Marmonte League opener at Westlake.
