Marble’s Slam Puts Van Nuys on Rocks

Mike Marble of Grant High hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to break a tie and power the Lancers to a 15-9 victory over Van Nuys in a Valley Pac-8 Conference baseball game Tuesday at Grant.
Marble, a junior, hit a two-run double in the first inning.
The Lancers (7-1, 3-0 in conference play) trailed, 6-2, after 3 1/2 innings, but scored three runs in the fourth, three in the fifth, and seven in the sixth on five hits, two walks and a Van Nuys error.
Michael Kim had three hits, two runs batted in and scored two runs for the Wolves (3-4, 1-2).
Shane Mochizuki had three hits for Van Nuys.
Chatsworth 10, Kennedy 8--Steve Kracow drove in three runs and Scott Sellz had two hits and scored three runs for the Chancellors (7-1, 3-0), No. 4 in The Times’ regional rankings, in a Northwest Valley Conference victory at Chatsworth.
Canyon 9, Valencia 6--Matt Palmer doubled twice and the Cowboys won a Foothill League game at Valencia.
Canyon (4-4, 2-1) took a 9-2 lead with five runs in the sixth, before Valencia (4-4, 0-3) scored four runs in the last two innings.
Hart 21, Burroughs 1--Ryan Haag and Tim Hutting each had four hits for the Indians (7-1, 3-0), ranked No. 5, in a Foothill League game called after five innings because of the 10-run rule at Burroughs (4-4, 1-2).
Alemany 10, St. Francis 9--Brett Baker’s bases-load walk in the eighth gave the Indians a Mission League victory at Alemany.
Nick Knolls had two hits, including a home run, for Alemany (4-3, 1-0).
Ariel Bellafiore had five hits and four RBIs for St. Francis (1-8, 0-3).
Crespi 12, Loyola 2--Tim Leveque (3-1) pitched a four-hitter and struck out 10 in a Mission League game at Valley College called after 4 1/2 innings due to the 10-run rule.
Max Flaum had three hits, including a triple, and four RBIs for No. 6 Crespi (6-2, 3-0).
Reseda 5, North Hollywood 4--Chris Coleman’s two-run double with one out in the seventh gave the Regents (6-3, 1-2) a Valley Pac-8 Conference victory at Reseda.
Coleman had two doubles and three RBIs.
Jesse Alvarez had three hits for North Hollywood (2-6, 1-2).
Nordhoff 4, Calabasas 3--Brian Bronk hit a two-out, two-strike, two-run double in the seventh to give the Rangers (3-2, 1-0) a Frontier League victory at Nordhoff.
El Camino Real 11, San Fernando 4--Josh Deneau struck out 13 and allowed four hits in six innings for the Conquistadores in a Northwest Valley Conference victory at San Fernando.
Cleveland 6, Taft 5--The Cavaliers (3-5, 1-2) scored three runs in the seventh to win a Northwest Valley Conference game at Cleveland.
Tony Cicero doubled to score two runs and Javier Gomez singled to score Cicero.
Saugus 6, Burbank 5--Rick Pistone, Ryan Jossett and Brad Ritter hit home runs, and bases-loaded walk in the fifth gave the Centurions (5-3, 2-1) a Foothill League victory at Burbank.
Roger Acuna hit two home runs and Chris Hamilton hit one for Burbank (2-6-1, 1-2).
Sylmar 10, Canoga Park 0--Greg Ramos (2-0) allowed two hits and struck out eight in five innings, and Sam Ponce had three hits and scored two runs for the Spartans (7-1, 3-0) at Sylmar.
Hueneme 9, Channel Islands 3--Jaime Martinez hit two singles and two doubles for the Vikings (4-4, 2-1), who scored seven runs in the fifth in a Pacific View League game at Hueneme.
Campbell Hall 5, Viewpoint 2--Michael Frost pitched a four-hitter with eight strikeouts for the Vikings (8-0) in a nonleague victory.
