Nevard Hurls No-Hitter for Camarillo, 1-0

Meredith Nevard pitched a no-hitter and Alana Mendoza scored on a first-inning passed ball to give Camarillo High a 1-0 victory over Rio Mesa in a Pacific View League softball game Friday at Camarillo.

Nevard (2-0) struck out 11 and walked one for the Scorpions (8-0, 4-0 in league play).

Mendoza had the game’s only two hits.

Chanel Tripp (3-4) struck out four and walked none for Rio Mesa (3-6, 2-2).

In other High Desert tournament first-round games at Lancaster City Park:

Canyon 7, Mojave 0--Jennifer Henderson pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks for Canyon (4-6).

Ashlee Nava and Aimee Nava each had run-scoring singles.

Highland 10, Sultana 0--Nicole Rawson pitched a no-hitter and had eight strikeouts for Highland (7-3).

Rawson (7-2), struck out the side swinging in the second inning, had a double and a triple.

Moorpark 1, Alemany 0--Christie Daly walked, stole second and scored the game’s only run on an error in the second inning.

Tara Barker (2-1) faced 24 batters in seven innings, pitching a one-hitter and striking out six for Moorpark (3-3).

Paraclete 6, Apple Valley 0--Sara Gonzales (4-1) pitched a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts and one walk for Paraclete (6-2).

Jackie Kolesar had three hits and an RBI, Amanda Wachsmuth had two hits and an RBI, and Barbara Alaniz and Latisha Hernandez each had two hits for the Spirits.

Burroughs 2, Hesperia 0--Cassandra Burns hit a two-run double in the top of the fourth inning to lift the Indians (4-4).

Junior Emily Brower (3-2) pitched a five-hitter with six strikeouts and three walks for Burroughs, which will play Glendale today in a second-round game.

In other softball games:

Granada Hills 7, Monroe 4--Erin Bennett hit a two-run triple in the 11th inning to break a 4-4 tie in a Mid-Valley League game at Monroe.

Monroe (3-7, 1-1) tied the score with two runs in the seventh. Vanessa Vargas hit a run-scoring double and came home on Monica Rodriguez’s double.

Santa Paula 9, Santa Clara 1--Adrina Ramos had three hits, including a triple, for host Santa Paula in a Frontier League game.

Tanya Lopez also had three hits for Santa Paula (5-2, 2-1).

Providence 14, Bell-Jeff 0--Freshman Ivette Hernandez hit her third home run of the season and drove in six runs for the Pioneers (8-1) in a nonleague game at Providence.

Jessica Franco drove in two runs and Alexandra Piazza stole three bases and had two runs batted in.

Faith Baptist 9, Rio Hondo Prep 4--Crissy Benyo had four hits, including a triple and two doubles, and four RBIs for Faith Baptist (4-3-1) in a nonleague game at Rio Hondo Prep.
