Struggling Northridge Handed Fifth Consecutive Loss

Share

Runs have been hard to come by for the Cal State Northridge baseball team lately.

On Friday, the visiting Matadors continued to struggle offensively, managing seven hits against three different Cal State Sacramento pitchers and dropping their fifth straight game, 8-3.

During the losing streak, Northridge’s bats have been quiet. The Matadors were shut out against Texas A&M; and were held to a single run in losses to UNLV and Michigan.

On Monday, the Matadors wasted a rare offensive outburst in a 12-9 loss to Texas A&M.;

Northridge (19-19) went hitless in the final three innings Friday after pulling to within 4-3 with two runs in the sixth.

Sacramento starter Dustin Tubb wasn’t overpowering. He struck out three in 6 1/3 innings and got into trouble in the seventh when he walked Tim Arroyo and Daryl Grant.

But Northridge failed to capitalize on the opportunity and Mike Bumstead’s double-play grounder ended the threat.

Northridge hurt itself equally on defense, committing five errors, including three during a two-run fourth for the Hornets (11-18).

Sacramento’s Jesse Krebs and Daniel Harkness each had three hits.

Glendale 7, Canyons 2--Wes Hutchison allowed five hits and had 10 strikeouts for Glendale in a Western State Conference game at Canyons.
