Murray to End Long Coaching Career at Hart

Bud Murray, who started coaching baseball at Hart High in 1967 and has won more than 500 games, said Wednesday he will retire from teaching and coaching at the Newhall campus at the end of this season.

Murray told his players last week and wrote a letter to Principal Gary Fuller.

“There was more silence than reaction,” Murray said. “I told them this was going to be my last year, that if they wanted to do something for me, they should just like each other a little better, play together a little better and not take everything for granted.”

Murray, 63, known as a disciplinarian and teacher of fundamentals, has his team on the verge of winning its 15th league championship in his 22 years at Hart. The Indians are 19-4 overall, 11-1 in the Foothill League.
