Kennedy Freshman Geery Dominates San Fernando

Adam Geery is a freshman, but he didn’t pitch like one Thursday.

The right-hander threw a three-hitter and struck out four to help Kennedy High defeat San Fernando, 3-1, in a North Valley League baseball game at San Fernando.

Jeremy Serr and Danny Mata each had two hits for Kennedy (14-13, 8-6 in league play).

Francisco Enriquez had two hits, including a triple, for San Fernando (5-17-1, 4-10).

The Tigers had runners on first and second with none out in the seventh, but failed to score.

Granada Hills 9, Cleveland 2--Scott Singletary had four hits, including a double, and three RBIs for Granada Hills (18-5, 11-3) in a North Valley League game at Cleveland (9-14, 5-9).

Dan Frisbee had two hits and two runs batted in, including a double, for Granada Hills.

Chatsworth 9, Birmingham 2--Scott Sellz (6-1) gave up five hits and struck out eight for Chatsworth (20-3, 13-1) in a West Valley League game at Birmingham (12-14, 3-11).

Sellz had two doubles and two runs batted in.

Chatsworth, ranked No. 3 in the region by The Times, clinched at least a tie for its sixth consecutive league championship.

El Camino Real 15, Taft 0--Adam Sperling threw a one-hitter and struck out eight for host El Camino Real (17-5, 10-4) in a West Valley League game called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Matt Schwartz hit a two-run home run and Conor Jackson had three hits and three RBIs.

Grant 11, North Hollywood 7--Cole James hit a run-scoring triple during a four-run fifth inning that broke a 7-7 tie in an East Valley League game at Grant.

Mark Soulema’s home run sparked a four-run fourth inning that gave Grant (17-6, 11-3) a 7-6 lead.

North Hollywood (6-20, 4-9) had a five-run second inning before reliever Mike Marble (6-1) restored order.

Van Nuys 23, Canoga Park 5--Shane Mochizuki hit for the cycle and drove in six runs in a Mid-Valley League game at Canoga Park called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Mochizuki hit a two-run home run in a six-run second inning that gave the Wolves (7-11, 5-8) a 10-2 advantage.

Van Nuys got three hits and four runs batted in by Juan Romo. He hit two home runs, including a two-run blast in the second inning.

Nick Phillips hit a two-run home run in the first inning for Canoga Park (0-19, 0-14).

Reseda 4, Monroe 1--Scott Parisen had two hits and Rafa Acosta (4-1) went the distance for host Reseda (13-10, 7-6) in a Mid-Valley League game.

Acosta scattered six hits, struck out three and walked none.

Paraclete 15, L.A. Baptist 5--Matt Parris hit two three-run home runs and teammate Joey Rispaud hit a three-run blast in an Alpha League game at Paraclete (14-7, 4-1) called after six innings because of the 10-run rule.

Parris homered in the third and fifth innings. Rispaud homered in the sixth.

Andrew Petersen hit two home runs for L.A. Baptist (13-6, 3-3), including a two-run blast in the first inning.
