Man Captured After Standoff With Police
A man arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after a standoff in Angeles National Forest was being held Monday on $500,000 bail in Los Angeles County’s Twin Towers jail, authorities said.
Ruben Marroquin, 50, allegedly shot a camper Sunday and barricaded himself for more than six hours in a motor home at the Cold Brook Campground on California 39 near Azusa, officials said. Sheriff’s deputies sealed off the campground and unsuccessfully tried to persuade Marroquin to surrender, authorities said. Shortly before midnight, a special team of deputies fired tear gas, burst into the motor home and captured Marroquin.
The incident began when Marroquin allegedly had a dispute with another man and shot him in the left wrist with a handgun. The victim was treated and released from a nearby hospital, according to authorities.
After his arrest, Marroquin was initially taken to a hospital to be treated for a bite from a police dog.
