White’s Two Victories Lead Brea to Sixth

Senior Oliver White of Brea Olinda won two events at the Southern Section Division III finals Saturday at Belmont Plaza Pool.

White’s victories came in the 50 freestyle, which he won in 21.30, and the 100 backstroke (51.38).

Mike Riordan of Pacifica won the 100 butterfly as he out-touched Justin Boyes of Paso Robles to win in 51.03. In the 200 individual medley, Boyes beat Riordan, in 1:53.00.

White’s two first-place finishes helped the Wildcats to a sixth-place finish in the boys’ division. Paso Robles was first with 271. Yucaipa was second (181) and Pasadena Poly third (141.50).

In girls’ Division III, freshman Carly Geehr of Pasadena Mayfair set two Division III records, winning the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle. Geehr, who will attend Newport Harbor next fall, broke her record from Friday’s preliminaries with a time of 2:02.35. Geehr’s time of 4:46.51 in the 500 free beat Stacy Shupe’s (North Hollywood Harvard Westlake) 1984 mark by 2.33 seconds.

Jurupa Valley won the Division III crown with 166.
