Manuel White rushed for 150 yards and five touchdowns in 14 carries to help the Valencia High clinch a Southern Section playoff berth with a 47-20 Foothill League victory over host Canyon on Friday night.

White, who needs 53 yards to reach 6,000 for his career, scored on runs of 13, 19, 11, one and 25 yards on five consecutive possessions.

“I don’t even think about the 6,000-yard milestone,” said White, whose team is assured of at least third place and a spot in the Division III playoffs. “I just treat every game like a playoff game and try to win them all.”

Canyon opened the game with an 18-play, 80-yard drive that consumed almost nine minutes and was capped by a one-yard touchdown run by Colin McNeil. But the Cowboys could do little to stop White.

Valencia (7-2, 3-1 in league play) drove 64 yards in four plays, capped by White’s 13-yard scoring run, to tie the score, 7-7, with 2:50 left in the first quarter.

The Vikings took the lead for good in the second quarter, driving 54 yards in seven plays, capped by White’s 19-yard run.

Quarterback Julio DeLeon of Canyon (3-6, 2-2) rushed for 115 yards in 11 carries, including a 61-yard touchdown in the third quarter that made the score 34-14. But DeLeon had two passes intercepted by Ray Cassaday, both setting up White touchdowns.
