Highland Registers KO in First Round

Brynn Olsson had 15 digs and Highland High defeated Camarillo, 15-2, 15-8, 15-3, in the first round of the Southern Section Division I-AA girls’ volleyball playoffs Tuesday night at Highland.

The Golden League champion Bulldogs (17-3) were led up by Lizelle Jackson’s 11 kills. Olsson added seven.

Setter Amy Truong had 23 assists and five aces.

Crescenta Valley def. Quartz Hill, 15-12, 13-15, 15-10, 15-8--Erica Lange had 22 kills and 20 digs, and Mari English added 66 assists with four aces for the Falcons (11-7) in a Division I-A first-round playoff victory at Crescenta Valley.

Viewpoint def. Faith Baptist 15-3, 15-0, 15-9--Darby Stern had 13 kills with a .556 hitting percentage to help the Patriots to their eighth consecutive victory in the first-round match in the Division V-AA playoffs at Viewpoint.

Mindy Baker had 29 assists for No. 3-seeded Viewpoint (15-2).

Grace Brethren def. Lancaster Desert, 15-10, 15-10, 15-11--Natalia Durso had 12 kills and eight blocks for the Lancers (18-1), who advanced to the second round in Division V-AA for the third consecutive season with a victory at Grace Brethren.

Desert finished 13-4.

Saugus def. Keppel, 15-5, 13-15, 16-14, 16-14--Kristi Carriveau had 17 kills and five blocks, and Aimee Wecksler had 11 kills and seven aces for the Centurions (10-5) in a Division I-A game at Saugus.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

San Fernando 7, Dorsey 0--Veasna Phao won her 13th consecutive match at No. 4 singles and the Tigers (14-0) won a City Championship first-round match at El Cariso Park in Sylmar.

The Tigers’ No. 2 doubles team of Michelle Ascencio and Karina Rojas won, 6-0, 6-1.

Chatsworth 4, Monroe 3--Margarita Ansaldo and Christine Cho won at No. 2 doubles, 7-6, (7-5), 7-6, (7-1), to break a 3-3 tie and give the Chancellors (7-7) an Invitational Championship first-round victory at Monroe (6-8).

Cleveland 5, Grant 2--Cindy Yim (12-2) won at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-1, over Shayna Fox and the Cavaliers (12-2) won a City Championships first-round match at Cleveland.

Marmonte League Tournament--Junior Brooke Borisoff of Agoura won her third consecutive singles title, and senior Rebecca Hunau of Simi Valley claimed her third consecutive doubles championship at North Ranch Country Club.

Borisoff defeated Annie Tran of Royal in the final, 6-0, 6-0.

Hunau and Stacy Gunawan beat top-seeded Lauren Baer and Lindsay Weiss of Westlake, 7-5, 6-3.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The Master’s 88, Cal Baptist 59--Lesley DuBois had 24 points and eight rebounds for the Mustangs in a nonconference victory at Master’s.

DuBois made nine of 14 shots--including two of three three-pointers for Master’s (3-0).

Pepperdine 85, USA Elite 54--Rasheeda Clark had 15 points and Tamara McDonald and Sarah Richen each added 13 for the Waves in an exhibition game at Firestone Fieldhouse.

Freshman Damaris Hinojosa, The Times’ Ventura County player of the year at Moorpark High, had six points and six rebounds.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Canyons def. West L.A., 15-4, 15-8, 15-5--Jamie Foster had 10 kills with 10 digs and the Cougars (13-4, 7-0) won a Western State Conference Southern Division match at Canyons.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Ventura 3, Santa Barbara 0--Laura Ochoa made four saves and posted the 16th shutout of the season for the Pirates (17-3-4, 13-0-2) in a WSC Northern Division game at Santa Barbara.

Canyons 5, Citrus 0--Christa Sanchez had three goals and an assist for the Cougars in a WSC Southern Division game at Canyons.
