Serna Breaks Scoring Record; Santa Ana Remains Unbeaten

Santa Ana’s Tomas Serna broke the single-season school scoring record during the Dons’ 13-0 victory over Golden West in an Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer game Tuesday at Santa Ana.

Serna scored three goals, giving him 37, which broke the record of 36 set by Jose Vasquez in 1991.

Jose Retiz and Robert Corona scored two each for Santa Ana (21-0, 12-0).

Santa Ana opens the playoffs Tuesday.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:

Cypress 3, Riverside 0--Melinda Harris, Alie Nunez and Rebekah Rogers scored goals for visiting Cypress (23-0, 12-0), which concluded conference play with its seventh consecutive shutout. The Chargers outscored conference opponents, 88-3. Cypress, which has a first-round bye in the playoffs, will play Nov. 16.

Santa Ana 8, Golden West 0--Ana Velasquez scored the first goal for Santa Ana (12-5-6, 6-2-4) 1 minute 25 seconds into the game. Velasquez added three more goals for the Dons, setting a school record with 33.

Goalie Carrie Yoak also set a record for Santa Ana with 10 shutouts. The Dons advanced to the playoffs for the first time in the program’s six-year history.
