Brea Olinda Beats Foothill; Cypress, Garden Grove Advance

Debbie Kim won two of three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, in singles to lead Brea Olinda to an 11-7 victory over Foothill in the first round of the Southern Section Division III girls’ tennis playoffs Thursday at Brea Olinda.

The Wildcats (19-2) advanced to the second round Saturday, when they will play Lake Elsinore, which beat Los Amigos in games, 78-77.

In other Division III matches:

Cypress 16, Riverside Ramona 2--Samantha Waller didn’t lose a game in singles for Cypress (15-5), which will play Glendora St. Lucy’s.

Garden Grove 17, Tustin 1--Hong An Huynh won, 6-0, 6-2, 6-0, for Garden Grove (19-2), which will play Westlake Village Westlake.

In Division I:

Capistrano Valley 16, Long Beach Poly 2--The Cougars lost only one game in singles, led by Leigh Ann Merryman and Jenny Bailey. Fourth-seeded Capistrano Valley (16-4) will play at Redlands.

Corona del Mar 18, Victor Valley 0--Anne Yelsey didn’t lose a game for host Corona del Mar (15-5), which will play Chino Hills Ayala.

Esperanza 15, Paramount 3--Kelly Six and Ritchelle Quiambao swept in singles for host Esperanza (18-2), which will play Temecula Valley.

Newport Harbor 18, Glendora 0--Kristen Case and Jenny Meyer didn’t lose a game in doubles for the Sailors (16-1), who play the Lynwood-Arroyo Grande winner.

In Division II:

El Dorado 14, Riverside Poly 4--Kim Dao lost one game, and Angela Rodriguez and Jackie Mantegna lost only two for El Dorado (12-9), which will play Quartz Hill.

Troy 17, Redondo Union 1--Aya Sekoda didn’t lose a game in singles for host Troy (17-2), which will visit Ventura Buena.

University 10, Villa Park 8--Aimee Kim didn’t lose a game for visiting University (11-8), which plays Riverside North.

Woodbridge 17, Corona Centennial 1--Senior Adriana Hockicko didn’t lose a game for the top-seeded Warriors, who will play Cerritos.

In Division V:

Orange Lutheran 11, Pasadena Mayfield 7--Jennifer Boenau and Christine Lalonde scored two key victories for Orange Lutheran (17-1), which will play Brentwood.

St. Margaret’s 11, Palos Verdes Chadwick 7--Alison Austin and Katie Conklin lost in doubles for only the third time this season, but won their last two sets, 6-1, 6-1, for St. Margaret’s (14-4), which plays second-seeded Carpinteria Cate.
