Fairfax Ends Losing Streak

Fairfax High ended its 43-game losing streak with style Friday afternoon, defeating Hamilton, 20-0, in a Western League finale at Fairfax.

Fairfax earned its first win since 1995 before a celebratory homecoming crowd. The Lions were three games shy of the state record for consecutive losses, set by Moorpark in 1977-82.

“We have guys that have been here four years that had never won a game,” first-year Fairfax Coach Shane Cox said. “We let all the seniors play this week. We put it in their hands and they just stepped up and did it.

“It’s just perfect--you couldn’t have written a better script.”

Senior fullback Jacciah Bluntt scored on a 12-yard run in the second quarter to give Fairfax a 6-0 halftime lead.

“It was the first time all season we had led at halftime,” Cox said.

Fairfax increased its lead on a 25-yard touchdown pass play from quarterback Richard Post to tight end Anthony Beamon in the third quarter.

Brandon Anthony completed the scoring with an 80-yard touchdown run with six minutes left.

“It’s great to end on a winning note,” Cox said. “Hopefully, this carries through into some hard work in the off-season.”
