Camarillo High Tops in Geography Bowl
Two teams from Camarillo High School took first and second place honors in the 11th annual county Geography Bowl held Saturday at Oxnard College’s gymnasium.
First-place winners Abhishek Mishra, Joel Deneau, Pat Bocash, Alex Nowrasteh, Erin Simon and Kevin Lee won an engraved plaque and a chance to take a helicopter ride along the coast.
Another Camarillo High team placed second after losing the tiebreaking question: What is the “City of Brotherly Love”? The answer is Philadelphia.
This was the second consecutive year a Camarillo High School team has won the bowl.
Eight schools from throughout the county competed in the event, which includes a written test on geography, the environment and economics.
Individual student winners were all from Camarillo High School. They were Deneau, who grabbed first place, followed by Nowrasteh and John Paul LeCedre.
The third-place team winner was from Oxnard High School.
