Quarterback Kyle Loughman is expected to start for Buena in a Division IV quarterfinal game Friday against Newbury Park at Ventura High.

Loughman, nursing a sore left shoulder on his passing arm, played sparingly in the Bulldogs’ 17-10 victory over Moorpark on Friday.

“Getting warmed up, his arm was sore so we decided to keep him out,” said Buena Coach Rick Scott. “The longer we can rest him, the better we will be down the road.”

No. 4-seeded Buena (10-1) inserted Loughman for the last play of the third quarter against Moorpark and he directed a touchdown drive that broke a 10-10 tie.

Mike Bresnahan previously covered the Lakers for the Los Angeles Times. He started the beat in 2004, a month after Shaquille O’Neal was traded, and covered several seasons of mediocrity before the Lakers won back-to-back championships in 2009 and 2010.
