A power outage at the College of the Canyons on Friday night suspended play of the Southern Section Division III quarterfinal playoff game between Saugus and Highland highs.

With 1:57 left in the third quarter, the stadium lights went out with Saugus leading, 35-34.

The game will resume at 11 a.m. today at College of the Canyons pending approval of Canyons officials.

Saugus was preparing to takeover at Highland’s 40 after a poor punt when the stadium went black.

At 9:40 p.m., 16 minutes after the lights went out, a policeman told fans to exit and that the game was suspended because of a “blown transformer.”

The outage provided Highland, which had squandered a 13-point lead in a 5:49 time span of the third quarter, with a much-needed break.

“I did a cartwheel when the lights went out but nobody could see it,” Highland Coach Lin Parker said.

Highland (8-3) led 28-21 at halftime and widened its lead to 34-21 on a two-yard run by Jeremiah Freeman.

But Saugus quarterback David Parker completed all six of his passes for 80 yards to lead two scoring drives for the Centurions (9-2) to take a 35-34 lead.
