St. Bonaventure Throws Booker at St. Joseph

Lorenzo Booker of St. Bonaventure High rushed for a school-record 249 yards in 22 carries and led the Seraphs to a 35-15 nonleague victory over Santa Maria St. Joseph on Thursday night at Ventura High.

Booker, who broke the record of 246 yards set by Ron Colitti in 1981, scored a one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to give St. Bonaventure (4-0) a 35-7 lead.

In four games, Booker has 687 yards rushing five touchdowns.

St. Bonaventure, ranked No. 2 in Southern Section Division XI, took the lead for good when Josh Ford blocked a punt in the end zone and Chris Nelson recovered with 9:21 left in the second quarter to give the Seraphs a 12-7 lead.

Adam Gray-Hayward of St. Bonaventure caught eight passes for 100 yards, including a 14-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.

Gray-Hayward has 27 catches for 355 yards and four touchdowns in four games.

Mike Spargo completed 12 of 22 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns for the Seraphs.

Coach Lance Fauria of St. Joseph (2-2), a former tight end at Crespi, lost in his first game in the region as a head coach.
