Sylmar 40, Washington 6--The Spartans scored the first time they touched the ball, on a 60-yard punt return by Clifford Johnson, and never looked back at Sylmar.

David Contreras had 224 yards and three touchdowns in 22 carries.

Early in the second quarter, Contreras scored on a 27-yard run one minute after Mark Sutton had scored on a one-yard run for Sylmar.

The Spartans (2-2) had 305 yards rushing in 31 carries.

Sylmar held Washington (0-4) to minus-18 yards in 27 carries.

Derrick Harley, the third-string quarterback for Washington, completed five of 22 passes for 56 yards.

Harley, pressed into duty because Washington’s top two quarterbacks were injured and did not play, was sacked six times.

End Eddie Gomez had four of the sacks.
