Fisher Leads Villa Park in Water Polo

Charlie Fisher scored three goals to pace Villa Park to a 7-5 victory over Santa Barbara in the quarterfinals of the Villa Park boys’ water polo tournament Friday.

Villa Park (7-2) is ranked seventh in Division I and fifth in Orange County. Santa Barbara is third in Division IV. The Spartans host La Jolla The Bishop’s in the semifinals at 10 a.m. today. The championship game is at 3:30 p.m.

In other quarterfinal games:

No. 3 El Toro 15, Simi Valley Royal 2--Ali Khalessi made 10 saves and held Royal scoreless until the fourth quarter to lead the Chargers. Tim Craycraft scored four goals and Trevor McMunn and Brett McCleave each scored three for El Toro (12-3), which will play Santa Maria Righetti at 11 a.m.

In consolation games:

Buena Park 7, La Canada 5--Robby Hegel (four goals) and Kyle Harriman (two goals) each scored a goal in the fourth quarter breaking a 5-5 tie for Buena Park.

In the Nike Challenge girls’ volleyball tournament:

Newport Harbor 2, Divine Savior Holy Angel (Wis.) 0--April Ross had eight kills to lead Newport Harbor to a 15-7, 15-11 victory in Chicago. The Sailors also defeated Mount Assisi Academy (Ill.), 15-6, 15-7. Newport Harbor plays Downers Grove (Ill.) South today in the first round of the Gold Division.
