Boy Still Critical After Hit-and-Run

A 5-year-old boy injured in a hit-and-run accident remained in critical condition Saturday, as police searched for the driver. The boy’s grandmother was killed and his mother was injured in the Friday afternoon accident.

The boy, whose name was not released, suffered two broken arms and a fractured skull, said a spokeswoman for Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles.

The mother, Leticia Ferman, 33, of Panorama City, was in fair condition with two leg fractures at County USC Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said. The grandmother, Odilia Ferman, 55, of Panorama City, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was heading west on Lanark Street shortly after 5:30 p.m., when he hit the pedestrians about a block west of Van Nuys Boulevard.

Several blocks away, at Burton Street and Brimfield Avenue, police found a white Buick Le Sabre with a broken windshield. The car was impounded.
