Bookend performances?

Lorenzo Booker of St. Bonaventure has been stringing them together all season.

The 5-foot-8, 160-pound sophomore transfer from Oxnard rushed for a school-record 249 yards and one touchdown in 26 carries last week against Santa Maria St. Joseph, surpassing 100 yards for the fourth consecutive game.

“Every week he gets better,” Coach Jon Mack said.

Booker, who played on Oxnard’s freshman team last year, hopes the season progresses in similar fashion, for himself and the Seraphs (4-0).

“I expect a lot of myself, and I expect a lot of other people,” Booker said. “But I’m a little surprised that we’ve done as well as we have.”

He attributes his success to an off-season regimen of weightlifting and running, often in the sand along Ventura County beaches. The program was set up by Curtis Richardson, a cousin who played football at Idaho.

Oak Park has been platooning two quarterbacks, senior Nate Elder and junior Josh Walker.

That trend is likely to continue at least through tonight against Kilpatrick, the Eagles’ last nonleague opponent.

“As of now, we’re going to keep using both of them, and then hopefully we can decide what we want to do,” Coach Dick Billingsley said.

Elder, who has started 20 consecutive games, has completed 29 of 68 passes for 378 yards and three touchdowns. Walker is seven of 19 for 157 yards and four touchdowns.
