San Clemente Takes No Prisoners

A dominating defense in the first half gave San Clemente High the early edge and the Tritons went on to rout Foothill, 37-0, in a nonleague game Friday at San Clemente.

Halfway through the first quarter, Gary Rozanski returned an interception 72 yards to give San Clemente a 7-0 lead.

Later in the quarter, Foothill battled back by driving 56 yards in 13 plays, pushing the Triton defenders inside their 10-yard line. However, kicker Mark Golino missed a 20-yard field goal attempt.

Early in the second quarter, Chris Smith scampered 13 yards down the sideline for a score to give San Clemente a 14-0 lead.

With 3:15 left in the half, the Tritons scored again on a 70-yard interception return by Jamen Tabesh to extend their lead to 21-0. With under a minute left in the half, Tim Hollis kicked a 38-yard field goal to make it 24-0 at halftime.

San Clemente scored two more touchdowns early in the second half to put the game out of reach.

James Allen ran in from 21 yards out, but Hollis missed the extra point and San Clemente led, 30-0.

With under five minutes left in the quarter, quarterback Danny Coviello rushed in from three yards. Coviello completed six of 10 passes for 85 yards.
