Two men were arrested Friday morning after authorities searched an apartment and found more than $5,000 worth of stolen property, clothes, credit cards and checks, officials said.

Christopher Warner, 40, of Agoura and Stephen Stevens, 25, of Thousand Oaks were taken into custody about 10 a.m. on suspicion of burglary, forgery and possession of stolen property, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Ron Tusi.

By late Friday night, Warner remained jailed on $15,000 bail and Stevens had been released. Deputies did not know if Stevens made bail or was freed on his own recognizance.

Police were called to Gelson’s Market on Townsgate Road in Westlake Village after store employees suspected that a man was trying to forge a name on a stolen check.

After Warner was arrested, deputies searched his apartment, which they were allowed to do because he is on probation, and found stolen property, which also included electronics and other household items, authorities said.
